Missing Maddie – Blood Specks Not Hers

Posted by cotojo on August 16, 2007

Blood specks found in the McCann’s holiday apartment did NOT belong to the missing Maddie, it was revealed last night.

DNA tests show that the tiny specks of blood found came from a man, who police believe may have cut himself while shaving when in the apartment after the McCanns had left it.

Chief Inspector Olegario Sousa has now said: “We have more evidence to back up the theory that the girl has died than just the evidence collected at the apartment.”

The discovery of tiny blood spots on the wall in Praia da Luz by sniffer dogs brought in by British investigators, led to speculation that Maddie was killed inside the flat and not abducted.Samples were sent to the UK for analysis.

Experts are only about 70% certain of the results due to the poor quality of the specks found and further tests are being carried out with the results expected nest week.

Maddie’s parents are now believed to be considering returning to the family home in the UK without their daughter.

Sandy – Thank you for stopping by and commenting.
They have more DNA tests to complete and should have the results next week.
As you say, it does drive home just how fleeting life can be.

  6. That’s pretty awful. Bits of blood from shaving, bits of blood from murder. The story and the experience drive home how fleeting is life, and how cheap to some. Thanks for keeping this story on your blog.
