BTF – Spam and Pre-selections Update

Posted by cotojo on August 13, 2007

Firstly, I would like to applaud Divya, Saurabh and the rest of the Blogging To Fame team for working so hard and listening to our concerns and observations. It is by no means an easy task.

As many of you are aware, blog spamming has been commonplace on BTF.

The BTF team now acknowledge how distasteful and annoying this practice is.

There is now a link on each message that is posted that you can use to report spam.

BTF also state that they will take action against spammers which could include the blocking or deletion of their profiles.

Subsequently this would also remove Fames posted to individuals/blogs by spammers that are deleted and you may see a slight reduction in the amount of Fame you have collected.

It is up to US, as individuals, to use the Report Spam with due diligence and fairness and collectively, we can keep BTF a clean, spam free platform from which we can all benefit.

The next round of Pre-Selections are due to be announced on 18th August, where blogs will be selected after stricter control and quality testing.

Subsequent pre-selections will be at 2 week intervals, giving new bloggers the opportunity to gain more exposure to their blogs.

I believe that the new system will be much fairer and of greater benefit to all bloggers.

Frank – Thank you for taking the time to visit and for leaving your comment.

Pure maths/fiction was a bit of fun lol, and why not :o)

    Have a good day.

  2. Hi Collin,

Thanks for the comment on my blog! I took the time to visit yours and peek around a bit. I really liked the Math fiction/problem you posted, very clever.

Deborah – Some of the new measures implemented have started to take effect and it can only be a good thing, but it remains on the shoulders of all bloggers to report spam issues.

As you have said, it is not an easy task, but by listening to others concerns and taking these into account, it can only benefit BTF and the blogging community as a whole.

Well spoken Sue. Dealing with the mass influx of new registrants daily in addition to coping with issues that have developed along the way is not an easy task.

It’s great to see the spamming issue taken care of and being handled with a strong fist, the latter of which must follow or the new implementations are a moot point. It would be helpful for new registrants to receive some form of information during the registration process of features available to them, to make things easier for them right from the get-go.

This first year will only make it better for BTF and those entering the competion for the second one next year. It should run much smoother for everyone involved.

Sue – Yes I think it only fair on the BTF team to give them credit for making it fairer and for ironing out the initial problems. It seems a good idea to view it as ‘beta’ version and build upon it.

Great to hear that measures are being taken to make the BTF process fairer. This first round has been a learning experience for the BTF team who have come across unexpected hiccups in the system. I am viewing this period as being BBTF (beta BTF).
