Missing Maddie – Investigators Tailing New Suspect

Police in Portugal searching for missing 4 year old Madeleine McCann are tailing a second suspect, it was revealed yesterday. The unidentified man has been under surveillance after significant links were established with Robert Murat, the only named suspect in the case.
Police hope his behaviour or movements could lead to clues about missing four-year-old Maddie.
The latest news, according to a Portugese newspaper, traces of Madeleine’s blood have apparently been found at the flat where she was seen last, and attempts had also been made to wipe out any sign of the blood.
Police are said to believe the discovery points to missing Madeleine dying at the flat, possibly in the course of her abduction.
The newspaper reported, “This evidence locates Madeleine’s death inside the apartment, but the investigators are still not certain it was murder, despite the fact that forensic experts have revealed that somebody did try to erase the blood traces. The theory most favoured by investigators to explain Maddie’s death – now taken as almost certain – is that it involved an accident. The investigators are convinced that the blood belongs to Madeleine, but they are still holding back the detailed results of the tests until their suspicions are confirmed.”
The latest discovery is said to have re-focused the investigation on the McCann’s apartment and the group of friends they were with at the time of their daughter’s disappearance.
News of the second man came as police finished a two-day search of Murat’s home near where Maddie was taken in Praia da Luz in May.
The team was guided by two British detectives and British sniffer dogs. One of the dogs is a “blood dog” that can detect tiny blood specks invisible to the human eye and the other is a “body dog” trained to locate and unearth corpses.
A police spokesman said “Murat is not the only name in the frame. Another man has been under surveillance for a period of weeks. Factors relating to his background and movements at the time have led police to suspect he may be involved.”
Surveillance was ordered on the second man after key witness evidence emerged.
Police are now understood to be examining a grim theory that Madeleine may have been killed inside the apartment and dumped in the sea.
Police sources have also disclosed that movements around the McCanns’ Ocean Club apartment had been monitored on video.
Police are now also re-examining Murat’s car for any further clues.
